"I actually don't know a rapper before me that liked white people more than me. I don't know a rapper that wore tighter jeans."
- Kanye West
Iconoclast. Braggart. Philanthropist. Tastemaker.
Blogger. Producer. Rapper. Just some of the many faces of Kanye West.
Since his debut album, College Dropout, changed hip-hop in 2004,
“Rapper” has actually fallen down the list, buried under a mountain of
award show controversies, personal tragedies and auto-tune. It’s easy to
forget about West’s abilities as a musician, given, well, everything
else. But when Yeezy’s doing his thing in the studio or on stage, few
are better. After taking a creative left turn on his last album, 808’s
And Heartbreak (he sings!), West has returned to the epic beats and
clever rhymes that made him a star in the first place. West followed up
the innovative album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with Watch the
Throne, his latest collaboration with Jay-Z that produced a sold-out
concert tour and was so successful they have a sequel lined up. On
October 21, 2013, Kanye proposed to Kim Kardashian at San Francisco's
AT&T Park with the words "Pleeease Marry Meee!!!" written on a
Jumbotron. He got down on one knee and presented the mother of his child
a 15-carat diamond ring. The couple is officially engaged.
